Customizability and learning curve
Tribe Platform offers a range of building blocks to create different types of online communities. You can use the platform to build communities for customer support, success, education, and more. It can also be completely customized to suit your design requirements and the Block-based community builder can be used to arrange different community components.
Salesforce is also highly customizable, but it comes with a higher learning curve and complex development workflow. The setup can be so overwhelming that it is common for organizations to conduct training sessions so that admins can use the platform.
At Tribe, we believe using software should be as intuitive as possible. So, it strikes the right balance between customization and usability.
Community touchpoints in the customer journey
Tribe helps you deliver an immersive community experience inside the customer journey. You can select components of the community and add them to any site or product using embed tools.
One of the examples can be displaying top community discussions related to a feature of the product when the user explores those features inside the product. This allows them to directly participate in the discussion right inside the product and benefit from self-service.
Similarly, a marketplace can showcase discussions related to a particular category inside the site to boost engagement and allow users to share their experiences.
Salesforce Community Cloud doesn’t offer embed tools, so if this is something you wish to achieve with your community, then Tribe would be the preferred platform.
Pricing
Tribe’s Premium plan gives you everything to get started with a powerful community platform at a $299 per month fee (annual subscription).
The Enterprise plan offers enterprise-grade security, data residency, uptime SLA, and more. The subscription fee is customized based on business needs. The pricing would still be a fraction of what one would pay for Salesforce.
Salesforce Community solution starts from $5/member/month and goes up to $35/member/month. This makes it very resource-intensive for member growth. Also, the cost increases with additional apps you would need to install from the marketplace and training requirements for the admins.
Design
Tribe’s design philosophy is inspired by modern social media sites. This makes it familiar to the community members and helps with community adoption. For instance, the engagement, networking, and content consumption tools offered by social networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Quora are available in your Tribe community.
Salesforce Community Cloud represents an older forum-style design. If you are looking to build a modern online community, select Tribe Platform.
Integration
It is imperative for any business to use third-party apps for process automation. Hence, Tribe offers direct integrations with popular tools (e.g., Zapier, Intercom, Amplitude, FullStory) to help customers easily automate processes and sync data with the software services they already use. These integrations range from messaging apps and support tools to marketing automation and analytics.
Salesforce has good integration with its own solution but other types of integration need either custom development with API or additional paid app installation via its marketplace.
If you need to easily integrate with other popular tools without incurring extra costs, Tribe would be a great choice.
Rich App Store
Since Tribe is a dedicated community platform, you can use a range of pre-built apps to extend the functionality of the community with a few clicks.
For example, there are pre-built apps to add cookie consent management functionality or insert custom code snippets into the community. Entirely new functionality can also be developed with Tribe’s Developer Portal.
With Salesforce, you won’t have access to all these types of apps and often end up purchasing from the app marketplace.
Reporting and analytics
Tribe has strong reporting and analytics capabilities via both the in-built dashboard and external integration. You can get a detailed view of the overall health of your community directly inside the platform. Additionally, if you enable Google Analytics and Amplitude/Mixpanel integration, all of the member activities (from questions asked and answers requested to upvotes, comments and more) will be sent as events to these tools which would allow you to track engagement as well as retention metrics.
Salesforce doesn’t support this type of integration for analytics and it can be very difficult to understand the member behavior.
Consider Tribe if you would like to gain insights on exactly how your members are behaving and get a grip on community health.
